Investigate Clarence Thomas

First, he was accepting free private jet trips around the world and cruises on a superyacht. Then he was dealing in undisclosed real estate sales and home renovations for his mother. Now, we’ve learned he allowed the private school tuition for his grandnephew to be fully covered for years. Clarence Thomas has spent the last two decades living it up in luxury thanks to his billionaire benefactor and GOP mega donor, Harlan Crow. And he disclosed none of it to the public.

This fits into a troubling pattern of bad behavior from justices Alito has taken dinners with conservative anti-abortion activists, allegedly leaking reproductive health decisions. John Roberts’ wife is getting rich recruiting for law firms with business before the Supreme Court.

We can’t expect the Supreme Court to police itself. The highest court in the land should be held to the highest standard of ethical conduct and scrutiny.

Recently, ProPublica has been reporting bombshell after bombshell about the troubling relationship Clarence Thomas has with billionaire Harlan Crow. First, it broke that he has been accepting extravagant gifts and luxury vacations. Then it was the undisclosed sale and full renovation of Thomas’s mother’s home. And now? We’ve learned that Crow footed the bill for the private school tuition of Thomas’s grandnephew.

This is a clear conflict of interest and is blatantly unethical. But unlike every other federal judge in the nation, Supreme Court justices aren’t beholden to any structured code of conduct.

As a voter and your constituent, I am urging you to support a full investigation into Clarence Thomas’s unethical actions, including subpoenaing Thomas and Harlan Crow to testify before the Judiciary Committee.  The Senate must also pass a Supreme Court Code of Ethics to stop this corrupt behavior from ever happening again on the highest court in our land.

No one is above the law—not even Supreme Court justices. It’s time to hold them accountable.
