In recent years, bad actors have threatened, stalked, and even tried to harm the everyday people who run our elections just for doing their jobs.

Elections offices don’t have the personnel or equipment they need to stay safe. This can’t continue.

Election offices across the country need more resources—not less—to ensure communities can cast their ballots efficiently and safely. That is why, as a constituent and a voter, I am writing to urge you to incorporate $400 million for election infrastructure into the budget.

Years of inadequate investments have led to a strained U.S. election system. Election administrators regularly deal with melted voting equipment, outdated software, and lack of needed supplies. Voters are challenged with polling place closures and extremely long waiting times to cast their ballots. Security threats, cyber attacks, and threats of violence against poll workers are on the rise.

Without federal investment in elections, communities across America will find it harder and harder to perform their civic duties—from rural to urban places and from red to blue states. Local administrators have consistently asked for more support. Now is the time to heed their requests.

As you review appropriations requests and prepare the FY25 budget, don’t let Congress fall short this year. Answer the requests of voters and election administrators across the country and earmark $400 million for election funding. Our freedom to vote depends on it.
