Americans are waiting on major action from Congress—on healthcare, gun safety, climate change, and immigration, for starters. But lately, it’s harder and harder to move any piece of legislation. Why? Two reasons: Voter suppression, which has stifled our voices and stopped us from electing lawmakers who can truly represent us, and the filibuster, which blocks progressive policy and leaves our legislators’ hands tied.
The House of Representatives has already passed two major voting rights bills: The For the People Act, which would undo the voter suppression legislation passed this year, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which would stop future voter suppression.
But neither has any chance of becoming law if we don’t end the filibuster first. We must demand the Senate create the democracy we deserve by ending the filibuster so we can pass BOTH of these bills.
Send an email today to tell your senators that it’s time to pick a side: End the filibuster to pass both bills or let GOP state legislators continue their voter suppression campaign unchecked.
